ABC Greenlights ‘S.H.I.E.L.D’ Marvel Pilot, Joss Whedon To Co-Write & Possibly Direct

ABC has ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D., a live-action series from The Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon, Marvel TV and ABC Studios.

S.H.I.E.L.D. will be written by Whedon, his bother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Joss Whedon also is set to direct the pilot, schedule permitting.

The Killing, a great show saw last seasons' it was gripping

- FORMER Doctor Who star David Tennant will have a whole load of new foes to tackle – by playing a COP.
- The Scots actor, who quit as the Time Lord in 2009, has signed up to portray a maverick sleuth in a major ITV1 detective drama inspired by cult Danish crime series The Killing.
- Made by the company behind Spooks and Hustle, the yet-to-be-named gritty new series sees David’s character solve crimes his colleagues cannot crack.
- Producers have taken their cue from Sarah Lund, the knitwear-wearing cop in The Killing, whose unorthodox methods often land her in hot water with her superiors.
- A source said:
  “This is not just another detective show with a quirky sleuth. There is more to it. It will be in the same vein as The Killing in that it will be suspenseful — just when you think you know what’s going on, David’s character will turn the whole thing on its head.
- “It’s a challenging role but one he is relishing.”
- With an expected budget of £1million, the show goes into production later this year and will air in January next year.
- It will be David’s first major TV role since Doctor Who. He has filmed a series of highbrow dramas in the past two years.
- Last year he appeared in United on BBC1, about the Man United “Busby Babes” killed in the Munich air disaster.
- He is currently in Poland filming Spies Of Warsaw, for BBC4.

- CHANNEL 4 is going up against ITV1 and BBC1 in the Saturday night entertainment battle – with a major new comedy show hosted by former Doctor Who star David Tennant.
- Comedy World Cup will see comics battle it out in a knockout contest when it airs next month.
- It will be the first major presenting gig for Tennant and C4 hope it will dent rival shows The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing.
